DENALI THE INSTINCT REVIEW
Jade Tree's DENALI continues to mesmerize on their second full-length, "The Instinct," as vocalist Maura Davis once again makes the listener contemplate if she is indeed, the ultimate female vocalist in indie rock. There's not too much different on here than from their self-titled debut, except for perhaps a more thorough production style, giving DENALI a grander presence and more encompassing aura. Plush, transcending, mid-to-slow paced songs glimmer for 40 minutes, all under Ms. Davis' soaring vocals, which whisper far more than they whimper. No one will ever accuse Ms. Davis of not using all of her vocal potential. Crisp percussion and thick, warm guitar tones fill out DENALI's sound, erasing pop sensibilities with haunting overtones. I think I could listen to this all day long...
